Entrecard Drives Some Sick Traffic

Files under Articles | 2 Comments

This blog is supposed to provide useful information as well as the Freebies, so here’s a short (but sweet-ish) review of the latest crazy way to drive traffic; that is Entrecard. Entrecard was the brainchild of Graham Langdon - the same guy who created Million Dollar Wiki, and whilst that idea was IMO a pretty shit one (fookin’ lucrative though as he earned around $100k from it), Entrecard is one that is helpful (and not to mention free) to all bloggers around the blogosphere.

What does Entrecard do? Well, basically it gives you a widget - a 125 x 125 ‘business card’ that you can display on your website. Now, this allows other bloggers to ‘drop’ their cards on your blogs - giving you traffic, and letting you know about other interesting websites that you made have not known about prior. By using Entrecard, you can advertise your business card on some of the biggest blogs around - whilst it takes time to get the required amount of ‘credits’ , buying even just a days’ worth of advertising on John Chow Dot Com would not be feasible - Entrecard makes it possible.

Here’s a look at the homepage of ‘Make Money Online’, obviously the most popular category for most webmasters - as you can see, John Chow is first followed by a few other big names like Problogger and Tyler Cruz; it’s not just the big names that are running it though, as I’d never even heard of a few bloggers in the top ten - the likes of Toni Turner, Colin King and a few others have interesting blogs which I wouldn’t have found without Entrecard.

Yours truly is at around the 30th mark in the list, with a daily cost of 60~ credits; Mark started off a bit later than I did and so is slightly lower but slowly rising. One of the keys to getting popular on Entrecard is having a ‘sexy‘ business card - that’ll be the thing that drives people to your website at the beginning. The quality of the content is what’ll make them come back a second or third time, which is why a few people who shot up at the beginning have now dropped down to a level more indicative of their blogging style.

Most bloggers, whether new or old have already started out with it - if you haven’t, I’d suggest you do so - the best thing a new blogger can get is traffic, and whilst a lot of it is crap - people coming just to drop their cards, it is a valuable tool as even if a couple of them stay, you’ve got some new readers that you wouldn’t have come across otherwise. To signup, go to www.entrecard.com and make sure you drop a card on mine and Mark’s blogs.

Why You Should Start Your Own Blog

Files under Articles | 15 Comments

These days, every man, his hated neighbour and its dog have blogs; in the modern era, it’s getting harder to keep track of who doesn’t rather than who does. Blogs give people a way to interact with the outside world; have their views read by hundreds, if not thousands of people and you choose the topic; whether it’s politics, religion or the completely unsaturated market that is making money online, you can rant, rave or praise George Bush and you’ll get people interested in your views (alright, maybe not the last one).

1) Having a blog makes you more friends

Let’s be honest; while making money online can be extremely profitable, it can also become boring if you’re doing it alone. Having a blog, a community can help you to get to know dozens of people with similar interests, and you never know - the guy you helped make $10 yesterday could be the same person who earns his first million tomorrow, and trust me; he’ll remember you for kicking him off to a great start when he was a wee newbie in the internet marketing world. Making not just business partners, but also friends online can help turn a long day of work into one of joy and amusement; it’s one of the most enjoyable results of starting a blog.

2) Having a blog makes you more money

Come on; John Chow earned $27,000 off his blog for November - wouldn’t you be happy with a tenth, or even a hundredth of that? Blogs offer tons of ways to make money - by using ads (don’t do too many though, or you’ll just piss your readers off); doing paid reviews that are often pretty short and easy to do and of course the various affiliate sales that you can make if you promote a product the right way.  We’re not saying it’s easy; heck, it will take some time and effort, and you will need to have some kind of decent content, but trust me; put in the necessary work at the beginning and the cash will flow.

3) Having a blog makes you famous

Alright, so this point is cheating a bit, as it’s a combination of the first two, but yeah; having a blog can make you famous. A few years ago, no one even knew the likes of John Chow, Shoemoney and ProBlogger; now their names are common places on the lips of webmasters world wide. The more you promote your own blog, the more people who never knew you existed will find out - heck, admit it; all of y’all want a bit of fame in the power hungry world. Starting a blog can get you that, whether good or bad - especially if you do some shameless promotion; get on it now and everyone will know your name in a few years.

There you go; three reasons why you gotta start your own blog. In fact, anyone who doesn’t after reading this post is an idiot; you better, or someone’s not going to be too happy  . Do you have a blog, or are interested in starting one? Drop us a line in the comments section below ;)
